Recognizing the best of Utah journalism across all platforms, including newspapers, television, radio, magazine and online 

Welcome to the 2024 Utah SPJ Headliners journalism contest!
The contest is now open. Winners will be announced at our annual awards gala this summer.

Sponsored by the Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, this statewide contest includes dozens of contest categories in reporting, photography, videography, design and other skills. Utah SPJ Honors recognize outstanding dedication to journalistic principles and service to journalism in the state. 

• Both SPJ members and non-members are invited to participate. Students entries are also accepted.

• News organizations are encouraged to submit work on behalf of their staffs, but individuals are also welcome to enter their work.

• Low per-entry fee of $10 for SPJ members and $15 for non-members. Honors nominations are free.

• Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024. Submissions must be paid for to be considered complete.

 How to enter

Once you sign up, entering your best work in our contest takes just a few easy steps:

  1. Provide information about your entry
  2. Upload your entry file(s) and other materials
  3. Confirm your entry information is correct
  4. Provide payment information
  5. Your entry is now ready for judging!

These steps may be completed at any time. Once you have completed the first step, you may return at any time to edit, upload files, and complete your entry. Once the entry is completed and confirmed, no changes can be made. NOTE: Accounts created to enter last year's contest will not work this year.
